There are many things to consider when planning a home improvement project or new home. KM BUILDERS would like for this to be a FUN and EXCITING process!
Here are some helpful tips we offer to help you plan your remodeling project or new custom home.
Know your builder or remodeler. Ask Questions about the company, and request references for any company you do business with. Be sure your contractor is familiar with building codes in the area.
Know what you would like to invest. Don’t try to figure what it will cost to do the project. Just know the amount you would like to invest. Don’t worry…our prices don’t vary- we use an accurate database for pricing. ALWAYS CONSIDER COST VS VALUE.
Figure in Cost VS. Value. When considering a remodeling project, consider Cost vs. Value. This is the return on what various home projects will pay back at resale.
Make three lists for yourself:
Research! Look in magazines and on the internet for great pictures and ideas. Create a file with all the pictures you have found. Keeping a notebook will help you to organize your thoughts: gather magazine clippings, color samples, reference phone numbers, photos and a record of the project, including receipts.
Be Practical in your design. Design for function, and do things that are flexible in design and style. Design your project in a way that will increase the re-sale value of your home.
Consider all your options. Knowing the different ways a remodel can be done will help you find the best choice for you. Always consider the best VALUE, not just the best price. Be sure if you have more than one estimate that you are comparing apples to apples.
Don’t follow TRENDS. Classic design is just that. It does not matter if you like traditional or contemporary styles or anything in-between. Try to stay true to the style of your home, and lifestyle. Trends come and go, but good design can last a lifetime!
Discuss with your family and friends. Talk to your family and friends, see what input they have. Talk to friends that recently have had their home worked on. See what works and what doesn’t work.
