The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requires that that firms performing renovation, repair, and painting projects that disturb lead-based paint in pre-1978 homes, child care facilities and schools be certified by EPA and that they use certified renovators who are trained by EPA-approved training providers to follow lead-safe work practices.

- In adults, exposure to lead paint dust can cause high blood pressure, hypertension, and even kidney effects.
- You can get lead in your body by breathing or swallowing lead dust, or by eating soil or paint chips containing lead.
- You may have many options for reducing lead hazards. In most cases, lead-based paint that is in good condition is not a hazard.
- Removing lead-based paint improperly can increase the danger to your family.
